Simkl Setup

Connect your Simkl account to receive watch history from your media servers and streaming services.

What is Simkl?

Simkl is a tracking platform for TV shows, anime, and movies. It features a clean interface, detailed statistics, and strong anime support with integration to AniList and MyAnimeList.

Prerequisites

• A Simkl account (sign up free)
• Premium is not required for basic scrobbling (premium unlocks extra Simkl features)

Connecting Simkl

1. Go to Connections in the Plaxt dashboard
2. Click Connect Simkl
3. You’ll be redirected to Simkl to authorize
4. Click Allow to grant Plaxt access
5. You’ll be redirected back to Plaxt

Your Simkl account is now connected and ready to receive scrobbles.

What Gets Synced

When connected to a source, Plaxt syncs:

• Movies — Title, year, watched timestamp
• TV Episodes — Show, season, episode, watched timestamp
• Anime — Simkl automatically categorizes anime

Anime Support

Simkl has excellent anime support:

• Automatically detects anime vs. regular TV shows
• Syncs with your anime watching habits
• Integrates with anime databases for accurate matching

Creating a Sync Link

To start syncing to Simkl:

1. Go to Dashboard → Create Sync Link
2. Select your source (e.g., Jellyfin)
3. Select your Simkl connection as the destination
4. Choose which user to sync (if applicable)
5. Configure options
6. Click Create

History Sync

Sync your existing watch history:

1. Open your sync link
2. Click Sync History
3. Plaxt will fetch history from your source and mark items as watched on Simkl

Matching Behavior

Simkl matches content using:

1. IMDB ID — Primary identifier for movies and TV
2. TVDB ID — Secondary identifier for TV shows
3. Title matching — Fallback when IDs aren’t available

If a match fails, the item will be logged in your sync events for review.

Multi-Account Support

For multiple Simkl accounts:

1. Connect each account separately in Plaxt
2. Create separate sync links for each account
3. Map different source users to different Simkl accounts

Troubleshooting

Authorization failed

1. Ensure you clicked “Allow” on Simkl’s authorization page
2. Try disconnecting and reconnecting
3. Check if Simkl is experiencing any outages

Items not matching

1. Check the event log for matching errors
2. Simkl uses IMDB/TVDB IDs—ensure your media has proper metadata
3. Anime is matched differently than regular TV shows

Scrobbles delayed

1. Simkl may take a moment to process scrobbles
2. Check your Simkl profile after a few minutes
3. Review the event log for any errors
